DUBAI // A high-school pupil has been appointed to represent Dubai and the UAE at the World Peace Caravan Youth Ambassador Programme.
Simran Vedvyas, 16, will take part in the event in December that aims to encourage youngsters to adopt a more sustainable and peaceful lifestyle.
The Indian teenager was chosen based on her impressive academic and personal accomplishments.
Simran, the founder and chairperson of SynergY, a group of young people from various institutions across the UAE and India working together to promote more sustainable lifestyles relating to health, environment and education, will join 11 youths from nine other countries to spearhead the World Peace Caravan.
The 12-day camel caravan for world peace will retrace Queen Sheba's peace journey to King Solomon 3,000 years ago.
Scheduled to depart from Petra, Jordan on December 15, the caravan will travel by camel, horse and foot to Jerusalem.
The caravan will be anchored by two landmark events, the WPC Peace and Health Conference on the Dead Sea, in Jordan, and the WPC Concert for Peace, in Jerusalem.
In the coming months, the 12 Youth Ambassadors will participate in a web-based, multimedia and solutions-driven programme designed to empower them and the WPC's youth community to invent and implement solutions to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
