A species of bird migrating from Poland has been found at the Ras Al Khor reserve in Dubai.
Alya Al Harmoudi, director of the Environment Department at the Dubai Municipality, said the sandpiper was caught earlier this month as part of regular bird ringing activities carried out by the Natural Resources Protection Section. The ring around the bird’s leg indicated it was tagged at Gdansk University.
A Kentish plove, which had been ringed in March last year, was also found in the reserve. It is possible that the bird returns annually after migration, Al Harmoudi said, adding this shows the importance of the reserve for such birds.
