Emirati father takes wife to court for negligence after son scalds himself

Emirati father says Moroccan wife, who was doing housework at the time, was negligent as the boy was left unattended in the kitchen.

FUJAIRAH // An Emirati father has taken his 27-year-old Moroccan wife to court for negligence after their 4-year-old son burnt himself with boiling water.

The father, A A, in his forties, reported the incident to police last month, saying that his wife, S B, was busy with housework while the child was in the kitchen unattended and that is when the boiling water fell on him, causing minor burns to some parts of his body.

The couple had past personal disputes that led to the wife filing divorce papers in November. She claimed that her husband only reported the incident to take revenge on her and affect her rights in the divorce case.

Fujairah prosecutors accused the woman of negligence and, in the first court hearing, she denied all charges. Another hearing is scheduled for January 31.
