Dubai Police Air Wing rescues stranded French family from UAE desert

Desert survival: In two separate incidents, the Dubai Police Air Wing is dispatched to rescue residents stuck in the desert and return them to safety.

DUBAI // A French family has been rescued from the desert in Al Faqaa area after their vehicle became stuck in the sand.

Police dispatched a helicopter to scene as soon as they were alerted.

Capt Mohammed Al Harmoud of Dubai Police Airwing was able to quickly locate the family after calling their cellphone.

The captain and his crew helped the family pull their car out of the sand and then directed them back to the road.

In a second incident, police were called to track two people after they went missing in Maliha area in Sharjah.

Lt Col Mohamed Jumaa Jaafar piloted a helicopter to locate the residents and return them to safety.

Brig Abdullah Al Shehhi, head of Dubai Police Air Wing, has called on the public to take GPS devices along on their desert trips to help rescuers locate them in case of an emergency.
