DUBAI // An estate agent insulted a Muslim during Ramadan in a phone dispute over a rental property, a court heard yesterday.
American A A, 35, was accused at Dubai Court of Misdemeanours of saying “cursed be your religion and your father, you son of a dog” to Jordanian O K on July 22 last year.
M A, an employee at the real estate office that A A is a manager of, said he received a call from the Jordanian, who said that he had missed a call from the office.
“I did not call him, so I asked A A if he had done so,” said M A. “At that moment he picked up the phone and started talking to O K. A minute later I heard him cursing the man.”
M A added that the estate agent had later told him that the Jordanian had also insulted him.
During police investigations, the American said: “I deny this. I called him a week before the incident because he failed to renew his rental contract, and he said he was upset because we shut down his parking space.
“I told him this was the procedure and he should renew his contract to get his space back, but he spoke to me impolitely.”
The Jordanian denied A A’s story and said that he had been insulted and threatened to be taken to court. “It’s only because of some financial dues that I failed to pay the office,” he said.
The American was not in court to enter a plea. The next hearing has been scheduled for April 1.
