ABU DHABI // The Federal Supreme court has overruled the deportation of a stateless drug user.
The defendant was sentenced to four years followed by deportation for taking hashish by the federal court in Umm al Quwain.
The appeals court upheld the verdict, which drove him to cassate the decision at the Federal Supreme Court.
He argued that the deportation was against UAE law because he has no passport or a state to be deported to. Such people were raised and lived their whole lives in the UAE and know nothing about the countries of their ancestors.
The Supreme Court ruled that since he has no official documents it is unlawful for the appeals court to uphold his deportation, and thus the cassation was valid.
