A man attempted to smuggle four kilograms of drugs from Oman to Saudi Arabia via Dubai, a court heard.

Dubai Police was tipped off last February when the accused, a Pakistani, 30, was trying to smuggle methamphetamine.

After intercepting the calls between the accused and the supplier in Pakistan, police officers were able to locate the drugs and arrested him in a sting operation on February 20.

“We arrested the man from Dubai’s International City after he’d collected the drugs for delivery,” said the police.

Dubai Criminal Court was told 3kgs of drug were confiscated from the accused and 1kg was recovered from Saudi Arabia with the help of authorities in Jeddah.

The accused denied the charges and the next hearing was adjourned until January 30.
