“You have to create the sorts of clothes that women need. Fashion isn’t just about suits, dresses and evening gowns. Everyone goes skiing and has to wear appropriate clothing.” says creative director Karl Lagerfeld “These days sports clothes must be easy to wear and in fashion. They are worn just as much in town with a pair of jeans, as in the countryside, in the cold and rain. It’s the sport attitude.”

Perhaps unknown to many, Gabrielle Chanel was an accomplished horsewoman, golfer, skier and hunting enthusiast. Desirous of fluid, comfortable pieces for her pursuits, Chanel created svelte and sporty silhouettes as early as 1924. Continuing the tradition, Lagerfeld regularly integrates sporty elements into his ready-to-wear and haute couture collections.
