Mario Gomez makes the cover of The National Sport on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 after firing Germany to a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in Paris on Tuesday evening, which saw Joachim Low's world champions top Group C and advance to the last 16 of Euro 2016.
Richard Jolly writes in his report that Gomez started Euro 2016 as a substitute. His first start produced the only goal against Northern Ireland. Germany progress as Group C winners, able to testify to the benefits of trading a false nine for a genuine No 9.
