Osman Samiuddin: UAE-based Pakistan Super League – 'the biggest thing that has hit Pakistan cricket'

“We are very excited about bringing the HBL Pakistan Super League to Dubai and Sharjah,” Chairman of HBL PSL Governing Council Mr. Najam Sethi said. “We have eight double headers and these matches will be packed with unique Pakistani entertainment. The scheduling will give everyone a chance to see their favourite stars from all over the world in action.

“During the England series, we all saw the love and interest for T20 cricket in the fans. With players from Pakistan, England, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and South Africa taking part in the first season of the League, we are confident that we will attract true cricket fans.”

The opening ceremony and opening match will take place on February 4 in Dubai, with a total of 24 matches to be played over the three week tournament. Five teams, representing Pakistan’s four provincial capitals and the federal capital, will be taking part in the PSL.

The five teams participating in the tournament are Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings and Islamabad United.

England’s Kevin Pietersen will join Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi and Pakistan trio Sarfraz Ahmed, Anwar Ali and Ahmad Shehzad for the Quetta Gladiators.

Islamabad United will be led by Pakistan Test captain Misbah ul Haq, with Australians Shane Watson and Brad Haddin among the line-up.

Pakistan T20 captain Shahid Afridi, West Indian T20 captain Darren Sammy and Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal will be playing for the Peshawar Zalmi franchise.

Karachi Kings will be led by Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik and the team includes England’s Ravi Bopara, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, and Mohammad Amir.

Lahore Qalandars have the services of West Indian stars Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo along with Pakistan’s Umar Akmal.
