Stan Wawrinka is seen in action on The National Sport front page on Tuesday, May 24 during his 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Lukas Rosol in the first round of the French Open.

Defending champion Wawrinka struggled on his first day out competing at Roland Garros against the giant-killer, most famous for his upset of Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2012. In the end, however, the Swiss player kept his cool and slugged it out to reach the second round.

Wawrinka stood out at Roland Garros on Monday, dressed in a fluorescent yellow-green shirt atop black shorts.

“I came back to play a match, not to enjoy and think about what I did last year,” Wawrinka said after the match. “For sure, when I enter the court, I had all the memory from last year. But after that, I was here to beat Rosol today.”
