Gary Sanchez hit a go-ahead, two-run single as part of a nine-run seventh inning as the New York Yankees rallied past the Boston Red Sox 12-8 on Sunday for a two-game sweep in Major League Baseball's first trip to London.

Trailing 4-2 entering the seventh, the Yankees' first two men reached against Marcus Walden before Aaron Hicks doubled to put the team within one run. Sanchez swung and missed on two straight pitches before lining to left for a 5-4 advantage.

Gio Urshela and DJ LeMahieu added two-run hits with the bases loaded, and two more came home on a sacrifice fly and an error as the Yankees sent 14 men to the plate in the inning to blow the game open.

But the Red Sox scored four in the eighth and had the tying run at the plate with the bases loaded and two outs when Rafael Devers grounded out to end the threat.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth in a non-save situation.

Adam Ottavino got the win in relief as New York was victorious for the 13th time in their past 14 games. Didi Gregorius homered in the eighth to extend the Yankees' record streak of consecutive games with a home run to 31.

The Red Sox homered three times in the first inning for the first time since 1979 but were held scoreless from there until the eighth. The Boston bullpen blew its American League-leading 17th save, and the club has dropped five of its past seven games.

Boston were outscored 29-21 as 50 combined runs mark the most in a two-game span in the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.

Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Christian Vazquez all went yard in a span of four batters in the opening frame, giving the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.

The Yankees then loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but Eduardo Rodriguez held New York to two runs on an RBI forceout and Brett Gardner single before getting out of the jam. The left-hander allowed just two men to reach over the remainder of his outing, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Luis Cessa matched him with four shutout innings out of the Yankees bullpen after opener Stephen Tarpley was tagged for four runs on four hits in the first.
