Dutch forward Memphis Depay has conceded he is still adjusting to the physical demands of the Premier League after moving to England this year. The former PSV Eindhoven winger has failed to light up English football after finding the back of the net just once in eight league appearance. However, he has been impressive in the Uefa Champions League, scoring three goals in four appearances. “There are a lot of games in Manchester. There are very few rest days and on training days you are mainly concerned with recovering,” the 21-year-old Netherlands international said. “It’s heavy, two games a week, always at a high level, and my body has to get used to that.”
Fifa
Sepp Blatter has been told he is facing a 90-day provisional suspension from Fifa’s ethics committee, a move which wound finally spell the end of his time as president. Fifa’s ethics committee has been meeting this week to discuss whether Blatter and Michel Platini should be provisionally suspended. It is understood the investigatory arm has recommended a 90-day suspension for Blatter but that the German adjudicatory judge Joachim Eckert has yet to make a final decision. The pair are being investigated by Swiss prosecutors and the ethics committee over a £1.35 million (Dh7.6m) payment signed off by Fifa president Blatter to Uefa president Platini. Blatter has had criminal proceedings opened against him by the Swiss attorney general over the case and for allegedly selling World Cup TV rights to former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner for 20 times below their true value.
West Ham United
Morgan Amalfitano has left the club by mutual consent, the Premier League team have announced. The Frenchman, who fell out with manager Slaven Bilic during pre-season, leaves after 13 months at Upton Park, in which he made 32 appearances, scoring three goals.
England
Wayne Rooney is a major doubt for tomorrow’s Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Estonia after he missed training for a second day due to an ankle injury. The Manchester United striker will remain with the England squad this week, but it remains to be seen whether he will travel to Lithuania for the final qualifier on Monday. Rooney is expected to be in attendance to collect his commemorative golden boot for breaking Bobby Charlton’s scoring record. Rooney passed Charlton’s 49-goal mark with a penalty in a 2-0 win against Switzerland last month and will be presented with the boot by the 1966 World Cup winner before kick off.
Leicester City
Former Inter Milan winger, Ezequiel Schelotto, says he has been in negotiations with Leicester about a move to the Premier League side. Schelotto, who is currently a free agent after leaving Inter following the termination of his contract in August. The player was quoted as telling La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I’d like to play there and I’m ready to get back into action.”
