Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) – Jurgen Klopp said his biggest buy could have had a hat-trick against Arsenal, but the Dutchman was dominant in his defensive duties. Reuters

Centre midfield: David Silva (Southampton) – Took his goal against Southampton well. Also provided some of the ammunition for the forwards with some classy passing. Reuters

Left midfield: Felipe Anderson (West Ham) – Showed why West Ham made him their record signing with two goals against Burnley. The excellent Brazilian also hit the woodwork. Reuters

Striker: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – Pep Guardiola said Sterling is in “incredible form” after he scored two goals and played a part in three more in the rout of Southampton. Getty Images

Striker: Alvaro Morata (Chelsea) - The Italian showed his goal drought is very much in the past with a well-taken brace as Chelsea saw off Crystal Palace. Getty Images
