Mason Greenwood, Tammy Abraham and Axel Tuanzebe: meet the 13 Premier League youth stars who have shone in pre-season

A look at the young players at Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur who have excelled

  Mason Greenwood (Manchester United). Goals against Leeds United and Inter Milan got him headlines and has had Ole Gunnar Solskjaer purring about his potential. At 18 he may not be first choice, but League Cup and Europa League should give him ample chance to show what he can do. EPA

  Tammy Abraham (Chelsea). Frank Lampard talked up the English forward after he scored his side's opener in their 2-1 win over Barcelona in Japan. After helping Aston Villa get promoted last season the 21 year old is set to be given his chance at Stamford Bridge this year. AP Photo

  Axel Tuanzebe (Manchester United). It is not just offensively that United's youngsters have shone. Tuanzebe was excellent against Inter and the 21 year old has put forward a good argument for starting the season in the backline of Solskjaer's side. Reuters

  Rhian Brewster (Liverpool). Stepped up well and took his chance to shine upfront for Liverpool with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane not in the squad in the United States. Looked the part and the 19 year old deserved to be on the scoresheet in the loss to Borussia Dortmund when he scored from the penalty spot. Reuters

  Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal). Very strong pre-season for the striker with the winner against Bayern Munich and two against Fiorentina. Arsenal have depth in attack but Nketiah has definitely put himself in the conversation to be part of Unai Emery's forward line. Reuters

  Mason Mount (Chelsea). The midfielder is already on Lampard's radar at Chelsea after playing under him on loan at Derby County last season. The 20 year old impressed against Barcelona and may have earned himself a spot in the side's Premier League squad. AP Photo

  Daniel James (Manchester United). Big things are expected from the winger following his move from Swansea City. Impressed, despite being on the end of some rough challenges, against Tottenham. AFP

  Iker Pozo (Manchester City). The midfielder scored against Kitchee to highlight his development. One for the future at the Etihad Stadium. AFP

  Angel Gomes (Manchester United). The 18 year old showed the depths of promising talent at United with the winner against Tottenham Hotspur. His performances in Asia have certainly given Solskjaer something to think about. AFP

  Harry Wilson (Liverpool). The midfielder came in for praise from Jurgen Klopp for his work in the centre of the park. Was also on the scoresheet against Dortmund. AFP

  Joe Willock (Arsenal). The teenager scored in the 3-0 win against Fiorentina. A loan spell might be on the horizon for the 19 year old, but he will have definitely impressed Emery. Reuters

  Troy Parrott (Tottenham Hotspur). The Republic of Ireland midfielder made good use of his time on the pitch against Juventus and was unfortunate not to find the net. AFP

  Nabil Touaizi (Manchester City). The 18-year-old Spaniard is unlikely to get a Premier League debut anytime soon, but he played well in Hong Kong and took his goal in the 6-1 rout of Kitchee well. Reuters

It is easy to dismiss pre-season friendlies. Especially with a number of the bigger sides being without players due to the Africa Cup of Nations and Copa America only finishing midway through July.

But it is a chance for managers, and fans, to get a closer look at the next generation of talent coming through at their clubs.

Manchester United, particularly, have given youth its chance in pre-season and the burgeoning reputations of players such as Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and Axel Tuanzebe have only been enhanced.

Chelsea and Arsenal, with Tammy Abraham and Eddie Nketiah respectively, have had young strikers build their confidence with winning goals against big European sides in the shape of Barcelona and Bayern Munich
