A round-up of match reports and scores from the second week of the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur 1 Liverpool 1

Club home: Rose (72’)

Club away: Milner (43’ pen)

• Danny Rose scored a second-half equaliser to cancel out James Milner’s penalty as Tottenham came from behind to draw with Liverpool at White Hart Lane.

Erik Lamela nodded Eric Dier’s cross into the path of Rose in the 72nd minute and the England left back controlled the ball and slammed it past Simon Mignolet to extend Spurs’ unbeaten start to the season.

Milner beat Michel Vorm from the spot after Lamela had tripped Roberto Firmino in the box, as Spurs struggled to deal with Liverpool’s attacking firepower.

Stand-in goalkeeper Vorm made an excellent save to deny Philippe Coutinho from close range and was twice called out of his area to tackle the outstanding Sadio Mane as the visitors created chance after chance during the first half.

Chelsea 3 Burnley 0

Club home: Hazard (9’), Willian (41’), Moses (89’)

• Goals from Eden Hazard, Willian and Victor Moses sent Antonio Conte’s Chelsea to the top of the table with a win over promoted Burnley in a one-sided match at Stamford Bridge.

Belgian Hazard picked up the ball in his own half in the ninth minute and with a burst of speed wrong-footed defenders, cut inside Michael Keane and sent a right foot shot low past a diving keeper Tom Heaton.

Willian’s contribution came after an exchange of passes between Hazard and Spain striker Diego Costa. Costa sent the ball to the Brazilian who sidestepped Stephen Ward and drilled the ball into the net.

Heaton was called into action constantly in the second half as Chelsea peppered the Burnley goal with shots. But he could not keep out Moses, who got on the end of a ball from fellow-substitute Pedro in the dying minutes, ensuring a 100 per cent start to the campaign for the London side.

Crystal Palace 1 Bournemouth 1

Club home: Dann (90’+3)

Club away: Arter (11’)

• Scott Dann’s stoppage-time header earned Crystal Palace a draw with Bournemouth.

Striker Josh King put Bournemouth ahead with a neat finish and Palace wasted a great chance to equalise when Yohan Cabaye’s penalty was well saved by a diving Artur Boruc.

Bournemouth had chances to extend their lead but Dann rose high to power home Jason Puncheon’s cross and secure Palace’s first point of the season.

Everton 1 Stoke City 0

Club home: Given (51’ og)

• Shay Given scored a bizarre own goal as Everton beat Stoke City at Goodison Park in an exciting game to extend the visitors’ wait for a first league win of the season.

Given initially saved Leighton Baines’s penalty after Ashley Williams fell under pressure from Phil Bardsley, only for the ball to bounce back off the post and deflect over the line off the goalkeeper’s head.

The home side enjoyed the best of a thrilling match and both Romelu Lukaku and Williams could have given Everton the lead during the first half, the latter denied a debut goal by Peter Crouch’s goalline clearance. Stoke responded well to going behind, Marko Arnautovic going closest when his effort rattled the bar in the 58th minute.

Leicester City 2 Swansea City 1

Club home: Vardy (32’), Morgan (52’)

Club away: Fer (81’)

• Champions Leicester City got their first win of the season as Jamie Vardy’s first-half strike and Wes Morgan’s second-half effort were enough to see off Swansea City 2-1 in wet conditions at the King Power Stadium.

In an attacking move that became a familiar sight during Leicester’s title-winning campaign, Vardy was picked out by a long-range ball from Danny Drinkwater from inside his own half, and made no mistake when one-on-one against Lukasz Fabianski.

Morgan added a second after reacting the fastest to slam home from close range after Swansea failed to clear their lines, before Leroy Fer pulled one back for the visitors, meeting Modou Barrow’s cross with a superb header.

Riyad Mahrez could have made sure of victory from the spot after Shinji Okazaki was brought down by Jordi Amat, but his spot kick was saved by Fabianksi, while the champions lost goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to injury when he raced off his line to deny Fernando Llorente.

Southampton 1 Sunderland 1

Club home: Rodriguez (85’)

Club away: Defoe (80’ pen)

• Substitute Jay Rodriguez struck late to salvage Southampton home draw after Jermain Defoe had given Sunderland the lead against the run of play at St Mary’s Stadium.

The outcome denied Sunderland manager David Moyes his first victory at the club which was seemingly within his grasp when Defoe hammered home a penalty after he was brought down by Jose Fonte.

But Rodriguez, thrown on by Southampton manager Claude Puel for the ineffective Charlie Austin, beat Jordan Pickford with a tame-looking effort from 25 metres which somehow squeezed under the visiting keeper.

It was a cruel end for Pickford who had kept his team afloat with a string of good saves, notably when he denied Austin and Shane Long either side of halftime.

Watford 1 Arsenal 3

Club home: Pereyra (57’)

Club away: Cazorla (9’ pen), Sanchez (40’), Ozil (45’+1)

• A fine first half garnished by goals from Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal victory at Watford for their first league victory of the season, easing the pressure on long-serving manager Arsene Wenger.

Under fire from fans demanding new signings before the transfer window closes on Wednesday, Wenger was given some breathing space after Cazorla drilled in a penalty and Sanchez made it 2-0 with a scrambled finish.

Ozil, who pulled all the strings for Arsenal in the opening period, headed home the third on the stroke of halftime after an inch-perfect cross by Sanchez.

Halftime substitute Roberto Pereyra pulled one back for the home side on his Premier League debut when he curled in an unstoppable shot from 15 yards in the 57th minute after a pinball-style ricochet fell kindly for him.

Hull City 0 Manchester United 1

Club away: Rashford (90’+2)

• Marcus Rashford scored a stoppage-time winner as Manchester United broke Hull City’s resistance at the death to win 1-0 at the KCOM Stadium and keep Jose Mourinho’s winning record alive at his new club.

In wet conditions, United were laboured and their build-up play was slow as they struggled to break down their hosts, but Rashford provided a late spark after replacing Juan Mata, and converted Wayne Rooney’s cross in the 92nd minute to crown a lively cameo.

Both sides sought to find their range during the first half as Robert Snodgrass sent a testing free kick just wide of David De Gea’s goal in the 24th minute, while Eldin Jakupovic was forced into a low save from a Juan Mata set piece — the first of a series of crucial stops.

World-record signing Paul Pogba was well shackled by the home side’s disciplined midfield, although Zlatan Ibrahimovic went close only to be flagged offside after backheeling into the side netting and David Meyler was fortunate not to be punished after raising an elbow to deflect a shot in the Hull box before Rashford’s late intervention.

SUNDAY

West Bromwich Albion 0 Middlesbrough 0

• West Bromwich Albion missed a chance to move into the top six after a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough despite making the better opportunities in a dull game.

Albion were the more progressive side but visiting goalkeeper Brad Guzan saved comfortably from James McClean and defender Brendan Galloway. The home side might have had a penalty when striker Salomon Rondon clearly had his shirt held by Ben Gibson and Albion’s Craig Dawson headed narrowly wide from a corner in the second half.

Middlesbrough, promoted last season under Spaniard Aitor Karanka, took 73 minutes to have a shot on target but held on to maintain their unbeaten record after three games.

Manchester City 3 West Ham United 1

Club away: Sterling (7’, 90’+2), Fernandinho (18’)

Club home: Antonio (58’)

• Manchester City moved to the top of the table with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United.

City moved on goal difference above Chelsea and neighbours Manchester United, who have also won their three opening games.

Having scored twice in the first 18 minutes through Raheem Sterling and Brazilian Fernandinho, Pep Guardiola’s side appeared set for an easy three points, only to be pegged back as the London side improved after halftime.

Michail Antonio reduced the deficit in the 58th minute but Sterling scored his second goal in stoppage time from an acute angle.
