  Centre-back: Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea) – Made an outstanding challenge to halt Jay Rodriguez in another promising performance as Chelsea powered to victory at Burnley. Reuters

  Centre-back: Dan Burn (Brighton) – A centre-back Graham Potter likes to use on the left, he excelled at both ends of the pitch in the dramatic win over Everton. AFP

  Left-back: Ben Chilwell (Leicester City) – Started the top flight’s record away win with a well-taken opener at Southampton. A threat going forward throughout. AFP

  Right midfield: Ayoze Perez (Leicester City) – Had not scored for Leicester since his £30 million move from Newcastle. Then he got a hat-trick in the 9-0 thrashing of Southampton. Reuters

  Left midfield: Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) – What a way to open his account. Pulisic scored a perfect hat-trick – left foot, right foot, header – in an outstanding display at Burnley. Reuters

  Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester) – Showed his clinical streak again with a treble to complete the 9-0 thrashing of Southampton and become the division’s top scorer. Reuters

  Striker: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – The lone City player to earn Pep Guardiola’s praise for his first-half display, Sterling scored in the second period against Aston Villa. AFP

The weekend started with a bang that was unlikely to be repeated across any of the other fixtures.

Leicester City went to St Mary's and thumped a sorry Southampton side 9-0 – the biggest away win in English top-flight history.

Ayoze Pere and Jamie Vardy both scored trebles, but one other Leicester player also makes it into this Premier League team of the week.

As does another hat-trick hero, with Christian Pulisic opening his Chelsea account in emphatic style in the win against Burnley.
