English football columnist Richard Jolly names his Best XI in the Premier League for the October 18-19 weekend.
Goalkeeper: Joe Hart (Manchester City). His saves were almost as important as Sergio Aguero’s goals against Tottenham, particularly stopping Roberto Soldado’s penalty.
Right-back: Seamus Coleman (Everton). Provided a reminder of why he is the best attacking right-back in the division with a fine strike against Aston Villa.
Centre-back: Steven Taylor (Newcastle United). The local lad produced a defiant display on his first league start of the season as Newcastle finally recorded a win.
Centre-back: Marc Wilson (Stoke City). Made a goal-line clearance as Stoke came from behind to defeat Swansea in a controversial game on Sunday.
Left-back: Leighton Baines (Everton). Set up two goals in the 3-0 victory against Aston Villa to show that he remains an outstanding crosser of the ball.
Right midfield: Dusan Tadic (Southampton). Played a part in five goals, scoring one, in Southampton’s astonishing 8-0 thrashing of Sunderland.
Centre midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea). Jose Mourinho said it was a scandal how good Fabregas’s first league goal for Chelsea was. It also proved crucial.
Centre midfield: Stewart Downing (West Ham). A revelation at the tip of a midfield diamond as West Ham won at Burnley to break into the top four.
Left midfield: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal). After a cool opening strike, the Chilean’s dart through the Hull defence led to Danny Welbeck’s late equaliser.
Centre forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City). Struck four times against Tottenham to become Manchester City’s most prolific Premier League player.
Centre forward: Graziano Pelle (Southampton). One of the signings of the season, the new Italy international continued his glorious scoring run with two goals.
