Cristiano Ronaldo enjoys Dubai's New Year fireworks extravaganza

It was a world class celebration for a world class footballer as Cristiano Ronaldo saw in the New Year amid Dubai's spectacular fireworks show.

The Juventus striker is in the UAE for the Globe Soccer Awards at Madinat Jumeirah on Thursday night, where he has been nominated for the Best Player Award.

He posted an image to his Instagram account with him accompanied by fiancee Georgina Rodriguez and son Cristiano Junior with the Burj Al Arab in the background. He wished his 149 million followers a "Happy New Year".

Rodriguez also took to social media to post pictures of their trip to the Emirates.

The pair took a boat trip off the Dubai coast on New Year's Eve and soaked up the winter sunshine.

Ronaldo has been in fantastic form for Juventus since his €100 million (Dh421m) summer move from Real Madrid, scoring 14 goals in Serie A as his side top the table by nine points from second-placed Napoli.

The Globe Soccer Awards event marks the conclusion of the 13th Dubai International Sports Conference, which takes place at Madinat Jumeirah on Wednesday and Thursday.

Organised by Dubai Sports Council, the conference features Fifa president Gianni Infantino, 2018 World Cup-winning manager Didier Deschamps, and former world champions with Brazil, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.
