Chelsea beat Liverpool to retain top four hopes, West Brom and Stoke relegated: Premier League predictions

With only a few games of the season remaining, fates are set to be decided at both ends of the table over the coming weeks

  Brighton and Hove Albion 0 Manchester United 2 - Friday, 11pm. Why? United still need points to seal second spot and, despite the loss to injury of Romelu Lukaku, they should have enough attacking threat through Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to take the victory.   Stoke City 1 Crystal Palace 2 - Saturday, 3.30pm. Why? Stoke have performed valiantly in recent weeks but this is the end of the line for their hopes of staying up. Palace have been superb in the past month to secure their survival, and with Wilfried Zaha in terrific form they should get another win to seal Stoke’s fate. Tony O'Brien / Reuters

  Bournemouth 2 Swansea City 1 - Saturday, 6pm. Why? Bournemouth can still be relegated, but it would take a freak set of results to see them go down. Joshua King has scored in three of Bournemouth’s past five matches and will again lead the line. Swansea have slumped at exactly the wrong time, taking three points from their past seven games, and another loss here will leave Carlos Carvalhal’s men in serious trouble. David Klein / Reuters

  Leicester City 1 West Ham United 0 - Saturday, 6pm. Why? If the speculation is true that Claude Puel’s job at Leicester is under threat then he needs a win badly here. West Ham also need points to ensure they avoid relegation, but Jamie Vardy could well be the difference maker for Leicester. Tony O'Brien / Reuters

  Watford 0 Newcastle United 2 - Saturday, 6pm. Why? Newcastle have done the hard part in staying up and clearly eased off in losing to West Bromwich Albion last weekend. They should bounce back against a horribly out of form Watford, who have not won since March 3 and have not scored in three games, leading to questions on whether Javier Gracia will stay on next season.   West Bromwich Albion 0 Tottenham Hotspur 3 - Saturday, 6pm. Why? Like Stoke, this is the weekend where West Brom's relegation to the Championship is confirmed. Tottenham need the win to stay in control of finishing in the top four. In Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen they should have more than enough firepower to sink West Brom’s renaissance.   Everton 1 Southampton 1 - Saturday, 8.30pm. Why? Beating Bournemouth last weekend gave Southampton hope of staying up. They need big performances again from the likes of Dusan Tadic and Charlie Austin here.   Manchester City 5 Huddersfield Town 0 - Sunday, 4.30pm. Why? Pep Guardiola wants City to lift the Premier League title in style and a hammering of struggling Huddersfield would do that. This should be a great day for City as they can break the Premier League points, goals and wins records all in one afternoon with a win where they score at least two goals.   Arsenal 1 Burnley 1 - Sunday, 7.30pm. Why? Arsene Wenger’s last home game as Arsenal manager. Sean Dyche’s Burnley have been the consistent surprise package of the season and they are well worth a point here to ensure that there is no happy farewell for Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.   Chelsea 2 Liverpool 1 - Sunday, 7.30pm. Why? This is must-win for Chelsea if they are to have any hope of qualifying for the Uefa Champions League. With Liverpool recovering from the success of reaching this year’s final, the fresher Chelsea have a chance to capitalise. Liverpool, for all their attacking vigour, are still fragile at the back, and Chelsea will hope Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud can exploit that. Dimitris Legakis / EPA

As the Premier League season creeps towards its conclusion, this weekend's fixtures could play a big part in the fortunes of a few clubs.

The blockbuster match of the weekend takes place at Stamford Bridge on Sunday when Chelsea host Liverpool aiming to keep their top four hopes alive. A win for Antonio Conte's side will move them to within three points of Liverpool with a game in hand.
