Bayern Munich issue 'very high' fine to Franck Ribery for outburst over Salt Bae golden steak criticism

Bayern Munich have issued a "heavy fine" to Franck Ribery after the French midfielder's foul-mouthed response on social media to criticism of him eating a gold-coated steak at a restaurant in Dubai.

Ribery, 35, posted the video of a visit to Nusr-Et, a steak house owned by celebrity Turkish restaurateur Salt Bae and rubbing his hands before tucking into a huge chop coated in gold.

Golden steak is one of Salt Bae's signature dishes. A 400g ingot cut of sirloin wrapped with golden leaves costs a whopping Dh1,250.

After being criticised for ordering the lavish meal, Ribery hit back at "the jealous, the haters", and Bayern have responded by fining the Frenchman for his comments.

“He has used words that we as FC Bayern Munich cannot accept and Franck can never use as a role model and as a player of Bayern," Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told reporters on Sunday at their Doha training camp.

"I talked to Franck for a long time yesterday and also told him he was fined, and he accepted the sentence."

Salihamidzic did not disclose how much the fine was, but insisted it was "very high".

Ribery is approaching the end of his time at Bayern, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. During his almost 12 years at the Bavarian giants, Ribery has won eight Bundesliga titles, five German Cups, the 2013 Uefa Champions League, and Fifa Club World Cup.
