Aaron Ramsey scores on Juventus debut as Cristiano Ronaldo penalty earn nervy win over Verona

Aaron Ramsey and Cristiano Ronaldo goals pulled Juventus back from the brink as the Italian champions came from a goal down to beat 10-man Hellas Verona 2-1 on Saturday.

Held to a goalless draw against Fiorentina last time out, Juve fell behind to a Miguel Veloso goal on 20 minutes after the visitors had missed an earlier penalty.

Ramsey, making his first start in a Juventus shirt since joining from Arsenal over the summer, equalised 11 minutes later with a shot that was deflected off Koray Gunter and an unfortunate day for the German defender continued, four minutes after the break, when he brought down Juan Cuadrado for a penalty.

Ronaldo duly dispatched the penalty to temporarily send Juve back to the top of Serie A before Inter's win over AC Milan in the derby.

Gianluigi Buffon denied Verona an equaliser with the Italian goalkeeper keeping out Darko Lazovic's effort before Veloso's follow-up struck the woodwork.

Marash Kumbulla was sent off late on for the visitors for a second yellow card after a foul on Blaise Matuidi.

Inter's 2-0 win in the Milan derby means Juve are second in the table with 10 points from four matches.

The lacklustre disaply follows a disappointing draw against Atletico Madrid in midweek in which Juve let slip a two-goal lead in their Champions League opener. .

"This is a team under construction and you can tell," Juve manager Maurizio Sarri said.

"Perhaps there was some mental fatigue, because you need to immediately recharge the batteries a couple of days later. With a lot of changes, you lose some balance and that’s what we saw today, as we played in fits and starts,” he added.

Verona manager Ivan Juric felt his team could easily have gone home with something from the game.

"We produced a nice performance but feel a little bitter because we deserved more," he said.

“We created plenty of chances and allowed Juve very little in attack."

In Saturday's late kick off, Antonio Conte's Inter maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign with a 2-0 win over neighbours Milan at San Siro.

Inter, who are now unbeaten in the last seven league clashes with Milan, grabbed the lead thanks to a deflected strike from Marcelo Brozovic in the 49th minute.

Romelu Lukaku made sure of the win with a 78th-minute glancing header from a Nicolo Barella cross from the left for his third goal since his move from Manchester United.

It was just the remedy to Tuesday's 1-1 Champions League draw with Czech outsiders Slavia Prague in which Conte lambasted his side for a lack of intensity while Lukaku and Brozovic had to be separated following an altercation in the dressing room at full time.

"We came from a performance in the Champions League that left us with a bitter taste, but gave us more impetus to face the derby in the best way," said Conte.

"It is a deserved victory, I am happy for our fans, because the derby is always the derby."
