DUBAI // A 17-year-old Emirati finished at the top of the leaderboard in the final Dubai Jet Ski Race at Dubai International Marine Club on Friday.

Omar al Rashid out shone Al Mur bin Huraiz, the previous champion, in the Ski Limited 800cc class to claim top points in a tightly-fought battle. Ten competitors raced ten laps each in two races in front of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi. An early start with flat seas enabled the competitors to reach high speeds.

"I have a lot of support from my family, friends and my coach and I train hard," said al Rashid. "I want to thank my sponsor, Extreme Bike for their help and now I will go to race in Thailand, Europe and compete in the World Championships in the USA."

In the Runabout Super Stock 1600cc, Nadir bin Hendi retained his top position with a perfect score. Kevin Retirer, the Austrian who was first in the final heat, finished third overall in the Pro Ski behind Caumont Ludovic of France and and al Rashid who raced in both the Pro Ski class and Ski Limited.
