  • Shikhar Dhawan (3/10): The other opener flopped with the bat as he scored just six from nine balls. A cautious approach in the early overs indicated he would dig in, but fell to a decent delivery from Kagiso Rabada. Aijaz Rahi / AP Photo

  • Virat Kohli (6/10): Like Dhawan, captain Kohli played cautiously. The best chance to dismiss the top-order batsman is to do so before he gets his eye in, which is why it was surprising to see him get out after facing 34 balls for his 18. Kohli put in a strong performance all-round: he was sharp on the field, holding on to two catches, and marshalled his team well during South Africa's innings. Aijaz Rahi / AP Photo

  • Lokesh Rahul (4/10): India's new No 4 batsman had every opportunity to make the position his own; all he needed to to do was play a supporting role to Rohit. He started well, but was deceived by a slower ball from Rabada to be caught at mid-off while on 26. He could have made a lot more. Alex Davidson / Getty Images

  • MS Dhoni (8/10): The wicketkeeper-batsman came up the order to bat at No 5 with nearly 100 runs still to get. He formed a good partnership with Rohit, scoring 34 off 46 balls. By the time he got out, India were nearly home. Dhoni was solid behind the stumps, as usual. A rare fumble early in South Africa's innings even proved fortuitous as Amla came on strike to get out next ball. Alastair Grant / AP Photo

  • Kedar Jadhav (6/10): The batting all-rounder played a limited role in the game. He did not bat at all, but earlier in the game, he sent down four overs for just 16 runs and took the catch off the last ball of South Africa's innings to dismiss Imran Tahir. Aijaz Rahi / AP Photo

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar (9/10): One of India's best fast bowlers, Bhuvi generated a fair amount of pace, although - worryingly - did not swing the ball a lot. Nonetheless, he put in two very good spells to take the wickets of top-scorer Chris Morris and tailender Tahir. His 2-44 from 10 overs show he was economical, too. Alastair Grant / AP Photo

  • Kuldeep Yadav (8/10): The left-arm leg-spinner once again had a steady performance, bowling a tidy spell of 1-46 from 10 overs. He took the wicket of JP Duminy and was sharp on the field. Alex Davidson / Getty Images

  • Yuzvendra Chahal (10/10): The best bowler on the day, Yuzvendra has usually played second fiddle in his partnership with Kuldeep (the duo is famously called 'KulCha'). But he took the lead on Wednesday, dismissing four batsmen while giving away 51 runs to break the back of South Africa's batting. He could well have been named Man of the Match had it not been for Rohit's fine century. Aijaz Rahi / AP Photo

  • Jasprit Bumrah (10/10): The right-armer generated good pace, bounce and movement during his opening spell as Amla and Quinton de Kock - Bumrah's Mumbai Indians teammate - struggled to read his bowling. Bumrah took two wickets for just 35 runs in his 10-over spell, but more importantly, it was his bowling that set the tone of the game. Paul Childs / Reuters

Rohit Sharma no doubt tops India's report card rating individual performances during their opening Cricket World Cup victory against South Africa in Southampton on Wednesday.

Rohit scored 122 not out - the 23rd century of his one-day international career - as he guided the title contenders home by six wickets to push the Proteas even closer to the exit door. Other notable contributions came from leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who took four wickets, as well as fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who took two wickets each.
