Yohan Cabaye, the Newcastle midfielder, will vigorously contest a Football Association charge of violent conduct with the help of his alleged victim. The 26-year-old Frenchman was handed the charge after his clash with the Brighton defender Adam El-Abd during Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round defeat with match referee Lee Probert having taken no action at the time.

However, manager Alan Pardew, who is facing the prospect of having to do without one of his key men for three games if he is found guilty, is furious that his summer signing has been brought to book. And he revealed El-Abd, who said at the time he felt Cabaye should have seen red, has offered to help him clear his name.

Arsenal

Arsenal will have the Swiss defender Johan Djourou (calf) available for today's Premier League trip to Bolton. Bacary Sagna returned from four months out with a broken ankle with a late substitute appearance in the 3-2 FA Cup win over Aston Villa, but the full-back may be rested. Thierry Henry and Mikel Arteta (both calf) are available.

Kieran Gibbs (groin) has returned to normal training, but Carl Jenkinson (back), Andre Santos (ankle) and Abou Diaby (hamstring) are still out while Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho are away at the African Nations Cup and Jack Wilshere suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.

Bolton Wanderers

Owen Coyle, the Bolton Wanderers manager, is glad his team is currently free of the "stigma" attached to being in the Premier League relegation zone - but stressed they must keep up their recent good form to ensure that is still the case at the end of the season. Wanderers pulled themselves out of the bottom three with an impressive 3-1 home victory over Liverpool in their last league outing and are now 17th in the table.

However, ahead of today's home game with Arsenal, Coyle said: "I think there is always a stigma involved in being in those [relegation] positions. But the important time to be out of the bottom three is after the last game of the season, ask any manager and they will tell you that."

West Bromwich Albion

Roy Hodgson, the West Brom head coach is to take no disciplinary action against James Morrison over his acting captain's after-match comments and insists the club are ambitious in their outlook. Morrison hit out at Albion's shortage of transfer activity after Saturday's FA Cup reversal against Norwich and claimed the Baggies were happy "to just settle for being in the Premier League".

But Hodgson has excused Morrison's comments as those of someone frustrated and hurt at Albion's fourth round exit as he prepares to face his former club Fulham at Craven Cottage tonight. Hodgson said: "After a game when you are hurting, and someone asks you an inflammatory question, you may not answer in the diplomatic way you would do so in the cold light of day. It was a statement made in disappointment and there is no disciplinary issue here.

Blackburn Rovers

Steve Kean, the Blackburn manager, has no new injury worries ahead of tonight's clash against Newcastle at Ewood Park. Christopher Samba could return to the starting line-up after Kean reiterated he would not be leaving the club before the transfer window closes. Ayegbeni Yakubu is suspended and Ryan Nelson is one step closer to making a return after he trained with the squad today.

You can donate to several registered charities through a “donation catalogue”. The use of the donation is quite specific, such as buying a fan for a poor family in Niger for Dh130.

The General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments

The site has an e-donation service accepting debit card, credit card or e-Dirham, an electronic payment tool developed by the Ministry of Finance and First Abu Dhabi Bank.

Al Noor Special Needs Centre

Emirates Airline Foundation

Those who travel on Emirates have undoubtedly seen the little donation envelopes in the seat pockets. But the foundation also accepts donations online and in the form of Skywards Miles. Donated miles are used to sponsor travel for doctors, surgeons, engineers and other professionals volunteering on humanitarian missions around the world.

Emirates Red Crescent

On the Emirates Red Crescent website you can choose between 35 different purposes for your donation, such as providing food for fasters, supporting debtors and contributing to a refugee women fund. It also has a list of bank accounts for each donation type.

Gulf for Good

Gulf for Good raises funds for partner charity projects through challenges, like climbing Kilimanjaro and cycling through Thailand. Mercer, the investment consulting arm of US services company Marsh & McLennan, expects its wealth division to at least double its assets under management (AUM) in the Middle East as wealth in the region continues to grow despite economic headwinds, a company official said.

Mercer Wealth, which globally has $160 billion in AUM, plans to boost its AUM in the region to $2-$3bn in the next 2-3 years from the present $1bn, said Yasir AbuShaban, a Dubai-based principal with Mercer Wealth.

“Within the next two to three years, we are looking at reaching $2 to $3 billion as a conservative estimate and we do see an opportunity to do so,” said Mr AbuShaban.

Mercer does not directly make investments, but allocates clients’ money they have discretion to, to professional asset managers. They also provide advice to clients.

“We have buying power. We can negotiate on their (client’s) behalf with asset managers to provide them lower fees than they otherwise would have to get on their own,” he added.

Mercer Wealth’s clients include sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and insurance companies among others.

From its office in Dubai, Mercer also looks after Africa, India and Turkey, where they also see opportunity for growth.

Wealth creation in Middle East and Africa (MEA) grew 8.5 per cent to $8.1 trillion last year from $7.5tn in 2015, higher than last year’s global average of 6 per cent and the second-highest growth in a region after Asia-Pacific which grew 9.9 per cent, according to consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In the region, where wealth grew just 1.9 per cent in 2015 compared with 2014, a pickup in oil prices has helped in wealth generation.

BCG is forecasting MEA wealth will rise to $12tn by 2021, growing at an annual average of 8 per cent.

Drivers of wealth generation in the region will be split evenly between new wealth creation and growth of performance of existing assets, according to BCG.

Another general trend in the region is clients’ looking for a comprehensive approach to investing, according to Mr AbuShaban.

“Institutional investors or some of the families are seeing a slowdown in the available capital they have to invest and in that sense they are looking at optimizing the way they manage their portfolios and making sure they are not investing haphazardly and different parts of their investment are working together,” said Mr AbuShaban.

Some clients also have a higher appetite for risk, given the low interest-rate environment that does not provide enough yield for some institutional investors. These clients are keen to invest in illiquid assets, such as private equity and infrastructure.

“What we have seen is a desire for higher returns in what has been a low-return environment specifically in various fixed income or bonds,” he said.

“In this environment, we have seen a de facto increase in the risk that clients are taking in things like illiquid investments, private equity investments, infrastructure and private debt, those kind of investments were higher illiquidity results in incrementally higher returns.”

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds, said in its 2016 report that has gradually increased its exposure in direct private equity and private credit transactions, mainly in Asian markets and especially in China and India. The authority’s private equity department focused on structured equities owing to “their defensive characteristics.”

Types of bank fraud

1) Phishing

Fraudsters send an unsolicited email that appears to be from a financial institution or online retailer. The hoax email requests that you provide sensitive information, often by clicking on to a link leading to a fake website.

2) Smishing

The SMS equivalent of phishing. Fraudsters falsify the telephone number through “text spoofing,” so that it appears to be a genuine text from the bank.

3) Vishing

The telephone equivalent of phishing and smishing. Fraudsters may pose as bank staff, police or government officials. They may persuade the consumer to transfer money or divulge personal information.

4) SIM swap

Fraudsters duplicate the SIM of your mobile number without your knowledge or authorisation, allowing them to conduct financial transactions with your bank.

5) Identity theft

Someone illegally obtains your confidential information, through various ways, such as theft of your wallet, bank and utility bill statements, computer intrusion and social networks.

6) Prize scams

Fraudsters claiming to be authorised representatives from well-known organisations (such as Etisalat, du, Dubai Shopping Festival, Expo2020, Lulu Hypermarket etc) contact victims to tell them they have won a cash prize and request them to share confidential banking details to transfer the prize money.

What is blockchain?

Blockchain is a form of distributed ledger technology, a digital system in which data is recorded across multiple places at the same time. Unlike traditional databases, DLTs have no central administrator or centralised data storage. They are transparent because the data is visible and, because they are automatically replicated and impossible to be tampered with, they are secure.

The main difference between blockchain and other forms of DLT is the way data is stored as ‘blocks’ – new transactions are added to the existing ‘chain’ of past transactions, hence the name ‘blockchain’. It is impossible to delete or modify information on the chain due to the replication of blocks across various locations.

Blockchain is mostly associated with cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Due to the inability to tamper with transactions, advocates say this makes the currency more secure and safer than traditional systems. It is maintained by a network of people referred to as ‘miners’, who receive rewards for solving complex mathematical equations that enable transactions to go through.

However, one of the major problems that has come to light has been the presence of illicit material buried in the Bitcoin blockchain, linking it to the dark web.

Other blockchain platforms can offer things like smart contracts, which are automatically implemented when specific conditions from all interested parties are reached, cutting the time involved and the risk of mistakes. Another use could be storing medical records, as patients can be confident their information cannot be changed. The technology can also be used in supply chains, voting and has the potential to used for storing property records.
