Abu Dhabi has been named as a potential host city should Manny Pacquaio and Amir Khan agree to fight, according to an adviser in the Pacquiao camp.

Khan met with Pacquiao in London to discuss the possibility of a fight while both men await news from Floyd Mayweather Jr.

British welterweight Khan has twice been in the running to face Mayweather, although the unbeaten American opted to fight Argentine Marcos Maidana on both occasions.

Khan hoped victory over Devon Alexander in December would help him secure a showdown with the pound-for-pound king, but it seems talks are continuing between Pacquiao and Mayweather over a mega-fight between the two boxing superstars.

While securing a fight with Mayweather remains Pacquaio’s priority, the Filipino’s representatives view Khan as “the best possible alternative” and the UAE capital is being suggested as the venue.

“Just in case Floyd doesn’t come through we regard Amir as the best possible alternative,” Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz said.

“He and Manny would make for a very exciting fight and Manny would be more than happy to do it at Wembley Stadium. We are looking at that possibility and also Abu Dhabi.”

The chance to fight in the UAE has always appealed to Khan, who attempted to organise a fight with Alexander in Dubai a year prior to their 2014 showdown.

Indeed, in an exclusive interview with The National, Khan resigned himself to missing out on a fight with Mayweather and urged Pacquaio to agree a fight in the UAE.
