Abu Dhabi to host first EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup in September

Abu Dhabi will host the first EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup next month.

The four-team competition will be played at Etihad Arena on September 18-19 on Yas Island and will serve as the curtain-raiser to the new EuroLeague season.

Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, Real Madrid and Dubai Basketball will compete to become the inaugural champions.

The competition builds on Abu Dhabi's reputation as a hub for basketball in the region. The NBA has staged pre-season games in the UAE capital since 2022, while the relationship with EuroLeague goes from strength to strength.

Etihad Arena hosted the league's Final Four in May 2025, when Fenerbahce defeated Monaco to lift the title. It was the first time the finals had been held outside of Europe, and the event drew thousands of travelling fans to the UAE.

Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, director general for tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “The first edition of the EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup is another milestone in Abu Dhabi's long-term partnership with EuroLeague Basketball and reflects our shared ambition to grow the game while creating world-class experiences for fans.

“Bringing four elite clubs to Abu Dhabi to open the new season further strengthens the emirate's position as a global destination for elite sporting events, while generating lasting value for our visitor economy, local businesses and communities. As we continue to expand our international sporting calendar, events such as the SuperCup play an important role in inspiring the next generation of players and bringing global audiences to Abu Dhabi.”

The SuperCup will feature two games each day. On Friday, September 18, Olympiacos will take on Fenerbahce (6pm UAE), while Dubai Basketball will face Real Madrid (9pm). The tournament concludes the following day, with the third-place game at 6pm and the SuperCup final at 9pm.

Dejan Bodiroga, president of EuroLeague Basketball, said: “The launch of the EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup marks an exciting new chapter for European club basketball. We are delighted to partner with DCT Abu Dhabi for the inaugural edition of this competition, which will bring together some of the most successful clubs to celebrate the start of a new season. Abu Dhabi has demonstrated a strong commitment to basketball and to delivering exceptional international sporting events, making it the ideal stage for this new competition.”

Two-day packages for the event are already on sale, while single-day tickets will be available from August 31. Visit www.etihadarena.ae for details.
