Dubai's public parking operator is gearing up for a regional expansion drive after unveiling plans to deliver services in Bahrain and Egypt.
Parkin has joined forces with Bahrain's Car Parks Company (Amakin) to provide smart parking in the kingdom, in what it hailed as a “milestone” achievement.
The agreement – announced on Monday – comes only days after Parkin confirmed a similar partnership in Egypt, with Modon Misr for Asset & Facility Management, Mwasalat Misr and Redcon Properties.
“Our partnership with Amakin represents a significant milestone in expanding our smart parking capabilities beyond Dubai, bringing together our complementary technologies and digital platforms to deliver a seamless customer experience and unlock future growth opportunities across the GCC and beyond,” said Mohamed Al Ali, chief executive of Parkin, said.
Parkin, set up in January 2024 by the Dubai government, has sought to gradually extend operations beyond the emirate in recent months.
In July, Parkin teamed up with Arada to introduce smart parking services at Aljada, a large-scale residential, business and retail development in Sharjah.
In December, Parkin signed a five-year partnership with Damac Properties to manage 3,600 paid parking spaces in its residential communities.
It will manage paid parking areas at dozens of residential and commercial towers, including at Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, its first entry into the capital.
Rapid growth
Parkin expanded its parking spaces by 27 per cent year-on-year and currently operates 268,300 paid parking spaces across Dubai. Paid parking areas across the city are expected to expand as the city grows, the chief executive said.
Mr Al Ali told The National last week that regulated parking is critical infrastructure.
“Parking is reaching every single person here,” he said. “We can see continued urban expansion, changing mobility patterns, and the growing expectations for smarter and more seamless services.”
The company is focused on spreading its technology – cameras, equipment and more – in addition to its parking operations.
“With our capabilities, operations, our technology, it's given us a great position in the market to provide not only operations,” Mr Al Ali said. “We are expanding, either in operations or on the technology platform.”
