Drivers have been urged to regularly review their traffic records and pay fines in good time after Dubai Police confirmed they impounded 497 vehicles in the first six months of this year over unpaid fines.
Brig Juma bin Suwaidan, director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said fines on some vehicles amounted to tens of thousands of dirhams, while several owners had not renewed their vehicle registrations for years.
“Driving an unregistered vehicle poses a serious risk to the safety of both the driver and other road users, especially if the vehicle has not undergone technical inspection to confirm its roadworthiness,” he said.
Brig bin Suwaidan added that traffic fines were not merely a means of collecting penalties but a tool to deter dangerous behaviour, discourage repeat offenders, and reinforce compliance with traffic laws.
He said the force will continue with its campaigns to seize vehicles because of traffic violations and expired registrations. He warned that, along with impoundment, drivers could face legal action and be prevented from making any vehicle-related transactions.
Before any action is taken, vehicle owners are contacted and urged to settle fines and renew their vehicle registrations, Brig bin Suwaidan said.
Campaigns are not only about impoundment but they are also designed to focus on raising traffic awareness and reinforcing driver responsibility, he added.
Ways to pay
He called on vehicle owners in Dubai to update their contact details with the Roads and Transport Authority and regularly review their traffic records, rather than waiting until fines accumulate and become difficult to settle.
Drivers have several ways of checking and paying fines, including the Dubai Police smart app, the website, self-service kiosks, and Smart Police Stations. There are also flexible instalment plans available, including through the Tabby service.
“These options help vehicle owners manage their financial obligations, settle accumulated fines, and avoid the legal and financial consequences of delayed payment,” he said.
