President Sheikh Mohamed on Wednesday said the tireless dedication of determined and inspirational women has been a driving force of the UAE.
Sheikh Mohamed made his comments as the country celebrates Emirati Women's Day.
“The UAE’s journey of development would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of determined and inspirational women,” said Sheikh Mohamed on X. “On Emirati Women's Day, we honour the women of the UAE for their role in shaping our nation's ongoing progress.”
The event, celebrated annually on August 28, was established in 2015 by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation and wife of UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, also offered his best wishes on Emirati Women's Day.
“The United Arab Emirates celebrates Emirati Women's Day today …” he said on X.
“We celebrate her as a mother, educator, and partner in the journey of development. We celebrate her in our homes, in our institutions and ministries, in our civil and military sectors, and in our private sector.
“We celebrate her achievements, contributions, and her genuine partnership in shaping the present and future of the nation.”
The UAE ranks first globally in 33 indicators related to women's issues, including female enrolment in secondary and higher education, protection of their employment and personal rights, and social security.
“The future will be even better, God willing,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
“She has our utmost appreciation and gratitude, not just on one day of the year, but every day and throughout the years.”
Sheikha Fatima also offered her thanks to Emirati women, state news agency Wam reported.
‘‘With immense pride and admiration, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you, Emirati women,” said Sheikha Fatima.
“Your exceptional accomplishments across various fields, inspiring entrepreneurship and empowerment have earned you the trust, esteem and respect of our visionary leadership.”
She also spoke about the important role women have to play in shaping the country's growth, particularly in regard to the We The UAE 2031 strategy for future development.
“As we stand on the threshold of a future brimming with creativity and sustainability, in our journey to realise the ambitious goals of We The UAE 2031 vision, your remarkable contributions urge us to redouble our efforts and elevate our aspirations,” said Sheikha Fatima.
Later on Wednesday, Maitha Al Shamsi, Minister of State, delivered a speech on behalf of Sheikha Fatima at a ceremony organised by Adnoc.
She said: "Our wise leadership has placed great importance on women, developing strategies and plans to ensure that women are represented across all fields of education and employment. They have been given opportunities, and their energies and capabilities have been invested so that the UAE can stand as a global model in elevating the status of women and enhancing their role in achieving sustainable development goals."
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, said Emirati Women's Day is a time to "celebrate its distinguished achievements, educational message and role in raising generations on ethics and values".
"Thanks to the support of the leadership, our country presents an inspiring model in empowering women and enhancing their presence in the development process in the present and the future," he added.
And Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, added: "On Emirati Women's Day, we congratulate Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the 'Mother of the Emirates', the pioneer of women's empowerment and a source of inspiration for Emirati women.
"Thanks to the vision of our leadership and Her Highness's continuous efforts, women have become true partners in the national development process. We are proud of the daughters of the Emirates and every year they achieve more success and progress."

Yemen's Bahais and the charges they often face
The Baha'i faith was made known in Yemen in the 19th century, first introduced by an Iranian man named Ali Muhammad Al Shirazi, considered the Herald of the Baha'i faith in 1844.
The Baha'i faith has had a growing number of followers in recent years despite persecution in Yemen and Iran.
Today, some 2,000 Baha'is reside in Yemen, according to Insaf.
"The 24 defendants represented by the House of Justice, which has intelligence outfits from the uS and the UK working to carry out an espionage scheme in Yemen under the guise of religion.. aimed to impant and found the Bahai sect on Yemeni soil by bringing foreign Bahais from abroad and homing them in Yemen," the charge sheet said.
Baha'Ullah, the founder of the Bahai faith, was exiled by the Ottoman Empire in 1868 from Iran to what is now Israel. Now, the Bahai faith's highest governing body, known as the Universal House of Justice, is based in the Israeli city of Haifa, which the Bahais turn towards during prayer.
The Houthis cite this as collective "evidence" of Bahai "links" to Israel - which the Houthis consider their enemy.

Why it pays to compare
A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.
Route 1: bank transfer
The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.
Total cost: Dh567.25 - around 2.9 per cent of the total amount
Total received: €4,670.30
Route 2: online platform
The UAE bank’s charge for sending Dh20,000 to a UK dirham-denominated account was Dh2.10. The exchange rate margin cost was Dh60, plus a Dh12 fee.
Total cost: Dh74.10, around 0.4 per cent of the transaction
Total received: €4,756
The UAE bank transfer was far quicker – around two to three working days, while the online platform took around four to five days, but was considerably cheaper. In the online platform transfer, the funds were also exposed to currency risk during the period it took for them to arrive.

Iftar programme at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding
Established in 1998, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was created with a vision to teach residents about the traditions and customs of the UAE. Its motto is ‘open doors, open minds’. All year-round, visitors can sign up for a traditional Emirati breakfast, lunch or dinner meal, as well as a range of walking tours, including ones to sites such as the Jumeirah Mosque or Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
Every year during Ramadan, an iftar programme is rolled out. This allows guests to break their fast with the centre’s presenters, visit a nearby mosque and observe their guides while they pray. These events last for about two hours and are open to the public, or can be booked for a private event.
Until the end of Ramadan, the iftar events take place from 7pm until 9pm, from Saturday to Thursday. Advanced booking is required.
