Healthy living: Finishing line is in sight for steppers at Week 5

We are in the home straight of the GetFitArabia Corporate Step Challenge, as the teams prepare to pull out all the stops in the last push towards the finish line.

Today is the last day of the contest, and the teams from Al Fara’a General Contracting continue to lead. The Step Pounders are way out in front with an incredible team total of 5.4 million steps. That puts them almost 1m steps ahead of their workmates in the Steppers team, who are on 4.5m.

The National’s team is on third place, with 3.9m steps, just ahead of JB Challengers on 3.8m steps. Semco Tigers are in fifth place on 3.1m steps.

The 46 teams, each made up of five people, are attempting to take at least 60,000 steps a day. That’s 12,000 steps per person, which is a little more than 9km, roughly equivalent to the length of Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The 230 people participating in the month-long walking challenge have been given fitness-tracker wristbands that monitor how many steps they take each day.

The challenge has been organised by Duplays adult sport and social club. Each team that hits the 60,000 mark collectively enters a virtual draw that day for a chance to win shopping vouchers worth Dh10,000. There is also an individual lottery for those who hit 12,000 steps and another for the top 10 teams with the most number of average daily steps.

Don’t miss Arts&Life on Sunday for the final round-up of the GetFitArabia Corporate Step Challenge and the announcement of the winners. For the latest positions, check out the leaderboard here
