New trend for Breo watches which makers say have ionic properties to help wearers get a restful sleep.

Introducing the Breo: an LCD screen set within a practically weightless rubber bangle that comes in every colour of the rainbow. Best of all, it’s made of the magic mineral, tourmaline. 

This semi-precious stone known for its ionic properties and is said to conduct a natural electric charge believed to aid restful sleep. Other purported health benefits include improving concentration, mood and vitality. The trend was quick to catch on in the US and Europe with celebrities like David Beckham, Kirsten Dunst and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas joining the slumber party. 

Here in the UAE, the watches retail for around Dh150, meaning most of us can also afford to invest in a good night’s sleep. For those with more expensive tastes, the luxury watchmaker Philip Stein has developed a bracelet to set you snoozing.

The sleep aid follows the success of the ‘Natural Frequency Technology’ used in Stein watches, which by virtue of an embedded disk claims to transfer balanced energy flow to the wearer. The company said it conducted its own clinical trials on the product, with 43 per cent of participants reporting that they asleep faster with 61 per cent telling of more pleasant dreams as a result of wearing the Sleep Bracelet, which aims to create feelings of harmony and stress release. The product is available on board Emirates Airline flights for around Dh1,100.
