Lufthansa is set to resume flights from Germany to Dubai in June.
The German airline will fly three times per week from Frankfurt to the UAE, with return fares starting from Dh2,235.
Subject to government approval, the first Lufthansa flight will depart Germany for the UAE on Sunday, June 7. Flights will continue between the destinations every second day.
People want to and can travel again, whether on holiday or for business reasons
It is one of several recent announcements that suggest the world is slowly opening back up: hard-hit Italy said that it would welcome international travel from June 3.
The Lufthansa group – which consists of Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings – has a new global schedule that will have it operating 1,800 weekly connections to 106 destinations in Europe and 20 long-haul destinations by the end of June.
Passenger flights to the UAE are currently suspended, apart from selected flights with Emirates and Etihad. Travellers who wish to return to Dubai, need permission from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship before flights can be booked.
Flights with Lufthansa can be booked on the airline's website and no approval code is needed. But travellers will only be accepted into the UAE if they meet the entry requirements in place on their date of travel.
"With the June flight schedule, we are making an important contribution to the revitalisation of the aviation infrastructure," says Harry Hohmeister of German Lufthansa Airline Group. "People want to and can travel again, whether on holiday or for business reasons. That is why we will continue to expand our offer step-by-step in the coming months and connect Europe with each other and Europe with the world."
Travellers on all Lufthansa flights will need to wear face masks and should expect stricter security and hygiene regulations. This could result in longer waiting times at checkpoints and restricted dining services on flights.
Passengers should also check entry and quarantine regulations of the countries they are flying to before booking any travel.
