The Yard is a 350,000 square-foot green development in Khawneej near Mirdif that features a lake, a farmer's market, a 550 metre shaded walking trail, picnic spots, a bridge where you can leave a lock to declare your love, a Last Exit food truck village (where you will find everything from sandwich and meat truck Mr Brisket to fresh donut truck Doh) and restaurants such as Sikka Cafe.
It's about to double in size, with a 200,000 square foot extension now under construction. There will be a new Roxy cinema, a gym and health centre and a Geant Hypermarket there by this time next year.
It's interesting that the supermarket will be a Geant, because in 2017, Majid Al Futtaim, who own the Carrefour chains in the region, acquired all of the UAE Geants: 26 to be exact. So this will be a re-entry into the UAE for Geant.
The new Geant at The Yard will be spread over 50,000 square feet and feature an area focusing on locally-sourced produce, and the Roxy Cinemas will offer Platinum and Gold class experiences.
When the whole Yard development is finished it will spread across 2.8 million square feet.
Here are some pics of what you'll find at The Yard now:
