After a year like no other, this New Year's Eve is going to be a bit different to what we are all used to. Many people will be looking forward to a chance to let their hair down, as 2020 ends, once and for all.

However, with the mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing still in place, good judgement is needed when it comes to the best ways to celebrate, and undoubtedly many will prefer to watch the many fireworks from the safety of home.

So, whether you opt for heading to the beach with a select few, joining the well-managed crowds to watch fireworks or staying home for the evening, we have rounded up a selection of looks to suit, no matter what the occasion.

Sequins and metallics are almost a tradition for New Year's Eve, with the shimmer adding to the overall sparkle of the night. Huishan Zhang has created a stunning flounce dress in chartreuse sequins, which is stocked at Bloomingdale's, while Harvey Nichols carries a floor-length gown by Ozgur Masur that is a delight in molten orange. For a silvery look, Jenny Packham's mini dress with feather trim, stocked at Farfetch, is perfect for those looking to be the centre of attention.

For those wanting to stand out in a pop of bold colour, Gauge 81 has a fabulous asymmetric mini gown in scarlet satin (look for it on Farfetch) while at the other end of the price scale, Zara has a long sleeve dress in bright purple. Anyone planning to be outside for the evening will, of course, need to wrap up against the cold, either with a knitted dress by Leem, or with a faux fur jacket from Reserved.

Following a year living in comfort wear, there is no shame for wanting to continue in the same vein for New Year's Eve. After all, 2020 has seen all the fashion rules break, so why not embrace the new normal and wear a tracksuit with pride.
