Get lost in a geometric painting at Meem Gallery

The intense energy and focus in Juliet Makhlouf’s newest paintings make the patterns almost leap from the canvas. Cleverly using a mathematical formula with geometric shapes, Makhlouf has created an optical illusion with bright colours and shades that allow the viewer to get lost in her work.

Making a bold departure from the figures that she used to paint, this series depicts only abstract compositions, which she says still have personality.

“In these new paintings there is a great deal of focus and detail, to me they are like crowds. The shapes represent people who can think, move, talk, whisper and each of them has character and spirit.”

Pondering upon the paintings, the eye moves between two and three dimensions and so causes the mind to enter a meditative state.

The show is only up at Meem Gallery until next week so make the most of the experience while you still can.

* Juliet Makhlouf: Solo Show runs until Thursday May 21 at Meem Gallery. For more info visit www.meemartgallery.com
