DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has reached five million followers on Twitter.
When other social media is taken into account, his followers now amount to 10.5 million, state news agency Wam reported on Friday.
Sheikh Mohammed’s Twitter page draws followers from across the Arab world, Europe, America and Asia but the majority of his followers hail from the GCC states, with this group accounting for 62 per cent.
This is followed by 8 per cent from Egypt and then lesser amounts from the US, UK, India, Asia and then other European countries.
Sheikh Mohammed is also deemed one of the five most influential global political leaders in terms of the number of followers on LinkedIn, the business social media platform that has about 400 million users.
The political leaders with the most Twitter followers are US president Barack Obama, with almost 66 million followers, and then Indian premier Narendra Modi with just under 16 million, according to twittercounter.com.
