KINGSTON // The Australian bowlers, led by left-armer Mitchell Starc, ran through the West Indies batting order yesterday to win the second Test in Jamaica by 278 runs inside four days.

West Indies, who were 16 for two overnight, faced a tall order in pursuit of an improbable target of 392 at Sabina Park. Captain Denesh Ramdin top scored with 29 while Veerasammy Permaul remained not out 23, but the other batsmen collapsed in a heap.

Australia, who won the first Test last week by nine wickets in three days, mopped up eight wickets in 34 overs yesterday to retain the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy.

The gulf between the teams in both matches was enormous as West Indies were outclassed in virtually all facets of the game. Australia scored 399 and 212 for two declared in their two innings. West Indies was all out for 220 in their first innings.

Australia will have a couple of days off before heading across the Atlantic for the Ashes series full of confidence but knowing they face sterner opposition against England.

Yesterday, West Indies lost five wickets in another disastrous session for the addition of 56 runs before lunch.

Shane Dowrich (4), Darren Bravo (11), Jermaine Blackwood (0), Shai Hope (16) and Jason Holder (1) all fell.

With Australia needing three wickets after lunch, the tail wagged a little before Ramdin, Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor fell in quick succession.

The Australian attack shared the spoils, with Starc claiming three wickets, while fellow quicks Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Johnson, and spinner Nathan Lyon, collected two each.
