The mega popular Egyptian star saw the 6,000 tickets for his gig sell out in less than two hours

Egyptian pop star Tamer Hosny made his Saudi debut in a sold out concert at King Abdullah Economic City in Jeddah on Friday, March 30.

The Saudi Gazette reported that the incredibly popular Egyptian singer, actor and composer has a large fan following in the kingdom, which saw the 6,000 tickets for his show sell out in less than two hours.

Ahead of the event, concertgoers were surprised to see that dancing would be “strictly prohibited” on the terms and conditions of their ticket and that men and women would be placed in separated sections in the arena.

A day before the event, the 40-year-old was welcomed to Jeddah with concert seats bearing the colours of the Egyptian flag:

Hosny is also known for being a producer, songwriter and author. He is one of the three judges for the Arabic version of The Voice Kids TV show on MBC1. He has 9 million followers on Instagram and 2.53m on Twitter.

In the last few months, under the reforms led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has become more open to the arts and culture scene.

In December 2017, the country decided to open cinemas after a 30-year ban, with the first ones set to start operating in March 2018. Just last month, the kingdom hosted its first opera performance of Antar and Abla and will later host a fashion week in Riyadh.
