Seal to headline Dubai World Cup 2013 after-race concert

Seal will perform at the Dubai World Cup's after-race concert on March 30. The British soul singer will replace the American pop star Anastacia, who was forced to pull out after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Dubai Racing Club chief executive Frank Gabriel welcomed the news of the addition of Seal to the big race day.

“We are delighted to celebrate this as one of the most memorable events in the sporting and social calendar, and to welcome such an internationally acclaimed artist like Seal to perform live in concert,” he said.

With a range of hits spanning more than two decades, Seal has been a consistent presence on the charts. He debuted in 1990 with the now classic Crazy and topped off his career with a Grammy award for the haunting Kiss From A Rose.

Since then, the 50-year-old artist has explored more vintage territory with a pair of albums covering Motown and soul classics. He also became latest celebrity to cash in on the talent show circuit, appearing as a coach in the Australian version of The Voice.

Dubai World Cup tickets start at Dh350, which allow access to the concert. Tickets are available at www.meydan.ae or via 04 327 2110. For details, visit www.dubaiworldcup.com

What is the Supreme Petroleum Council?

The Abu Dhabi Supreme Petroleum Council was established in 1988 and is the highest governing body in Abu Dhabi’s oil and gas industry. The council formulates, oversees and executes the emirate’s petroleum-related policies. It also approves the allocation of capital spending across state-owned Adnoc’s upstream, downstream and midstream operations and functions as the company’s board of directors. The SPC’s mandate is also required for auctioning oil and gas concessions in Abu Dhabi and for awarding blocks to international oil companies. The council is chaired by Sheikh Khalifa, the President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi while Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, is the vice chairman.
