The new clubbing season returns with house music giant Black Coffee behind the decks. The South African producer's work, which has him mixing progressive house with African styles and rhythms, transitioned from an underground sensation to an EDM star. His growing list of collaborations include Beyonce, Drake and Alicia Keys. His latest single, LaLaLa, has him hooking up with RnB singer Usher for another tropical house banger.

Catz 'n Dogz
The Polish electronic music duo come to the UAE armed with new tunes, courtesy of the recently released fourth album Friendship. The show will celebrate the release's key theme, which is a celebration of the chemistry between members Wojciech Taranczuk and Grzegorz Demianczuk. The group first emerged in 2003 and built their way up the eastern European dance scene to perform in big clubs across Europe. As well as their own tracks, they have also lent their talent to a slew of remixes ranging from Basement Jaxx and Kings of Leon to the Friendly Fires.

De La Swing
The seasoned Spanish DJ has been spinning records since the age of 16 with early influences being techno and drum and bass. Such a young start allowed him to develop to a level where he is renowned for his exception technical skills and infectious stage presence. He comes to Dubai with a selection that has been wowing crowds from Los Angeles to Barcelona this summer.

What are NFTs?
Are non-fungible tokens a currency, asset, or a licensing instrument? Arnab Das, global market strategist EMEA at Invesco, says they are mix of all of three.
You can buy, hold and use NFTs just like US dollars and Bitcoins. “They can appreciate in value and even produce cash flows.”
However, while money is fungible, NFTs are not. “One Bitcoin, dollar, euro or dirham is largely indistinguishable from the next. Nothing ties a dollar bill to a particular owner, for example. Nor does it tie you to to any goods, services or assets you bought with that currency. In contrast, NFTs confer specific ownership,” Mr Das says.
This makes NFTs closer to a piece of intellectual property such as a work of art or licence, as you can claim royalties or profit by exchanging it at a higher value later, Mr Das says. “They could provide a sustainable income stream.”
This income will depend on future demand and use, which makes NFTs difficult to value. “However, there is a credible use case for many forms of intellectual property, notably art, songs, videos,” Mr Das says.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.
