US rapper Mase is performing in the UAE this weekend.

The veteran MC will make his debut in the Emirates tonight at Mad on Yas Island before taking the stage at White Dubai on Friday.

Fans of 90s era hip-hop and students of the genre should welcome the arrival of the New Yorker.

The 40-year-old has played an integral part in what is dubbed as hip-hop’s second golden age; an era spanning the mid-nineties and which was ruled by the likes of Tupac, Notorious BIG, Puff Daddy and seen the emergence of an up and coming rapper called Jay Z.

With Puff Daddy as producer, Mase released two seminal albums that perfected the rap-pop shtick.

1995's Harlem World sold over two million copies and was powered by hip-hop anthems Feels So Good and What You Want. The follow up release, 1997's Double Up, also contained the hit Get Ready which featured the RnB group Blackstreet – the latter recently performed in Abu Dhabi as part of the Sunset Music Festival.

With Mase retiring and returning for an ill-fated comeback in 2004, here is hoping he can make the most of it this time around. With current heavyweights such as Kanye West, Drake and Fabulous all citing his slow and hypnotic flow as influential to their careers, Mase definitely has support behind him.

He is presently working on a new album tentatively tilled Now We're Even.
