Start your day the ‘high’ way

If you're an early riser and want to start your weekend on a high, a surefire way to do that is to take in the sunrise atop the world's tallest building. The Burj Khalifa has just kicked off its "sunrise sessions", and having done it, we can say it is well worth the effort. Access to the Burj Khalifa is available daily from 5.30am and tickets cost Dh125 for adults and Dh95 for kids. Check out www.burjkhalifa.ae if you're keen on the high life.

The smART way to plan your experience

If you enjoy immersing yourself in the region's art scene on the weekends, you'll be as keen as we were to hear that Dubai Culture has launched its new edition of ArtMap. The trusty guide offers a comprehensive artistic and cultural guide to major events and exhibitions taking place across the UAE. In addition it will give you detailed schedules and listings, useful maps and expert interviews. Grab yours at galleries, museums and art fairs. Go to www.dubaiculture.gov.ae

New beauty project with screen appeal

We're all for lounging around watching Netflix when we get a chance, so you can imagine our excitement when we found out there was a new beauty salon that lets you catch up on the latest shows while being beautified – it's a two birds, one stone scenario. Project Beauty has just opened on Al Wasl Road in Dubai's Umm Al Sheif area, and it has bedroom-like waxing suites with television set-up, along with a separate T'Sume nail bar. Check it out at www.projectbeautyme.com/waxstudio/

On the new trail

It's certainly garden weather, which makes the next few days the ideal time to check out one of the capital's newest alfresco offerings – Filini Garden, the outdoor Italian lounge at Yas Island. And, if after checking out the dual-level venue at the Radisson Blu hotel you want to continue on for something else new, Maison Beirut, the Lebanese restaurant at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr is worth a look too, thanks to its outdoor terrace and views of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. For more on either of these new Abu Dhabi venues go to www.filinirestaurant.com/restaurant-abudhabi or www.fairmont.com/abu-dhabi/
