The top 30 finalists for the inaugural Sovereign MENA Art Prize in partnership with Start have been announced.

They include several high profile artists from across the region including UAE-based Walid Al Wawi for a piece called Portrait Patriot and Hazem Harb, whose work on the architecture of occupation in Palestine was shown at Salsali Private Museum last year. Athier Mousawi, Sahand Hesamiyan and the trio Rokni and Ramin Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian, all represented by Dubai galleries, are also shortlisted

Following 12 successful years of Sovereign Art Prize events in Asia, most notably Hong Kong, this is the first time it takes place in the UAE. The prize, which has the theme ‘Hope Takes Flight’ will culminate in a grand exhibition, dinner and auction conducted by Christie’s on 19 October, where the first prize winner will be crowned and awarded US$30,000. The winner of a public vote will also be recognised with a US$1,000 prize.

All artworks will be exhibited publicly at Warehouse 46, Alserkal Avenue- the hub for arts & creativity from October 13-17. Cast a vote for your favourite here: http://bit.ly/2diWi0M.
