Mike Pompeo accused predecessor John Kerry of "actively undermining" US foreign policy for telling Iranian officials to "wait out" President Donald Trump's time in office.
On Friday, the US Secretary of State criticised Mr Kerry for "unseemly and unprecedented" behaviour while meeting Iranian officials.
Mr Kerry acknowledged this week that he had met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif “three or four times” since 2016.
The Boston Globe reported that in these meetings Mr Kerry advised the Iranians to "wait out" Mr Trump's time in office, and in an interview with Fox News this week, Mr Kerry did not deny nor did he confirm that assertion.
“I think everybody in the world is talking about waiting out President Trump,” Mr Kerry said.

"This is a former secretary of state engaged with the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism," Mr Pompeo said of Mr Kerry's meetings, adding that last week Iran directed its militias in Iraq to fire rockets at the US consulate in Basra. He also said that he saw Mr Kerry in Munich earlier this year, along with former US energy secretary Ernest Moniz and former US negotiator Wendy Sherman, where he believed they met Iranian officials.
Mr Pompeo criticised Iran for continuing to arm the Houthis in Yemen, and plotting assassinations in Europe. He anticipated full compliance from European states once US oil sanctions on Iran are in place on November 4.
Mr Pompeo did not say that Mr Kerry had broken the law but Mr Trump accused Mr Kerry of doing so on Thursday, tweeting: "John Kerry had illegal meetings with the very hostile Iranian Regime, which can only serve to undercut our great work to the detriment of the American people. He told them to wait out the Trump Administration! Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!"
Mr Kerry retorted that the president ought to be more concerned that his former campaign manager, after pleading guilty to money laundering and obstruction of justice charges, is cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

ETFs explained
Exhchange traded funds are bought and sold like shares, but operate as index-tracking funds, passively following their chosen indices, such as the S&P 500, FTSE 100 and the FTSE All World, plus a vast range of smaller exchanges and commodities, such as gold, silver, copper sugar, coffee and oil.
ETFs have zero upfront fees and annual charges as low as 0.07 per cent a year, which means you get to keep more of your returns, as actively managed funds can charge as much as 1.5 per cent a year.
There are thousands to choose from, with the five biggest providers BlackRock’s iShares range, Vanguard, State Street Global Advisors SPDR ETFs, Deutsche Bank AWM X-trackers and Invesco PowerShares.
The Energy Research Centre
Founded 50 years ago as a nuclear research institute, scientists at the centre believed nuclear would be the “solution for everything”.
Although they still do, they discovered in 1955 that the Netherlands had a lot of natural gas. “We still had the idea that, by 2000, it would all be nuclear,” said Harm Jeeninga, director of business and programme development at the centre.
"In the 1990s, we found out about global warming so we focused on energy savings and tackling the greenhouse gas effect.”
The energy centre’s research focuses on biomass, energy efficiency, the environment, wind and solar, as well as energy engineering and socio-economic research.

It was the start of an incredible journey, with millions of riders and drivers finding new ways to move and work in a dynamic region that’s become so important to Uber. Now Pakistan is one of our fastest-growing markets in the world, women are driving with Uber across Saudi Arabia, and we chose Cairo to launch our first Uber Bus product late last year.
Today we are taking the next step in this journey—well, it’s more like a leap, and a big one: in a few minutes, we’ll announce that we’ve agreed to acquire Careem. Importantly, we intend to operate Careem independently, under the leadership of co-founder and current CEO Mudassir Sheikha. I’ve gotten to know both co-founders, Mudassir and Magnus Olsson, and what they have built is truly extraordinary. They are first-class entrepreneurs who share our platform vision and, like us, have launched a wide range of products—from digital payments to food delivery—to serve consumers.
I expect many of you will ask how we arrived at this structure, meaning allowing Careem to maintain an independent brand and operate separately. After careful consideration, we decided that this framework has the advantage of letting us build new products and try new ideas across not one, but two, strong brands, with strong operators within each. Over time, by integrating parts of our networks, we can operate more efficiently, achieve even lower wait times, expand new products like high-capacity vehicles and payments, and quicken the already remarkable pace of innovation in the region.
This acquisition is subject to regulatory approval in various countries, which we don’t expect before Q1 2020. Until then, nothing changes. And since both companies will continue to largely operate separately after the acquisition, very little will change in either teams’ day-to-day operations post-close. Today’s news is a testament to the incredible business our team has worked so hard to build.
It’s a great day for the Middle East, for the region’s thriving tech sector, for Careem, and for Uber.
