President Barack Obama was invited by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi to attend India’s Republic Day festivities as its chief guest – which one Indian TV commentator says is one of the most significant honours India can bestow upon a foreign leader. The event marks the anniversary of when the country’s constitution came into force in 1950.
