Israel's Minister of Intelligence and Transportation Yisrael Katz will visit Oman next week, President Benjamin Netanyahu has announced, just days after his own historic visit to the Gulf state.

Mr Netanyahu visited Oman on Friday to meet Sultan Qaboos bin Said in a move described by a senior Omani foreign ministry official as a bid to “resuscitate” peace talks in the Middle East.

His was the first visit of its kind since 1996.

Mr Netanyahu’s arrival in Muscat followed a visit by Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas earlier in the week. The visits of both leaders were at the invitation of Sultan Qaboos.
