An eyewitness to Prince Philip's crash in Norfolk on Thursday afternoon talked to the BBC about the moment that the Duke of Edinburgh's car crashed near Sandringham.

Roy Warne, a barrister, told the Today programme that "I was driving home and I saw a black car, a Range Rover, come out from a side road. And it rolled, and it ended up on the other side of the road. And there was a huge collision with another car."

"I went to the other car, and there was a baby in the back, and with another man I got the baby out of the back," Mr Warne, 75, said.

"Then I went to the black car to help, and realised it was the Duke of Edinburgh. And he was trapped in the car. I asked him to move his left leg, and that freed his right leg. And then I helped him get out."

Referring to the Duke's infamous temper, Mr Warne said: "I can't remember what he said to me but it was nothing rude! He was obviously shaken and then he went and asked if everyone else was alright."

The Duke of Edinburgh was unhurt in the collision, which took place near the Queen's Sandringham Estate.

Reports in British media said the 97-year-old was driving a Range Rover when the accident took place. The vehicle reportedly turned over on its side after the collision.

"The Duke of Edinburgh was involved in a road traffic accident with another vehicle this afternoon," Buckingham Palace said .

"The Duke was not injured."

Norfolk police attended the scene of the incident, where the duke and other driver were breathalysed - both tests came back negative for alcohol. Two women in the Kia car which was also involved in the accident were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.

Eyewitnesses told local news they had helped Prince Philip out of the vehicle, saying he was shaken.

"I saw a black, 4x4 type car on its side and me and my son were like 'oh my word, that doesn't look good'," a woman who drove past the scene told the BBC.

"Luckily it was just sort of on the side of the road, the road wasn't closed in any way.

"Obviously it looked quite smashed in. I'm quite amazed he is okay actually."
