Doctors in London have delivered a baby via emergency caesarean section after his mother was reportedly murdered by a crossbow.
The baby boy is currently in a stable condition in hospital, Metropolitan Police told The National on Tuesday.
Sana Muhammad, a mother-of-five, was attacked in front of her children while doing the washing up in her home in Ilford, east London, the Evening Standard reported.
Scotland Yard said they were called out to an incident in Ilford on Monday morning at 7.40am where they found the victim suffering from an abdominal injury. She was taken to hospital and later died.
Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 50, of no fixed abode, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with her murder.
Mrs Muhammad’s husband Imtiaz described how he found the suspect hiding in the outside shed with a loaded crossbow. He said the man ran into the house and shot Mrs Muhammad, 35, in her abdomen.
"The arrow went up into her heart but did not touch the unborn baby. The baby was due in four weeks. They operated with the arrow still in because it would have been too dangerous to take out," Mr Muhammad, 42, told the Evening Standard.
“She was a wonderful mother and wife. We were together seven years. I am heartbroken we were inseparable.”
Mrs Muhammad was previously known as Devi Unmathallegadoo and is believed to have three children by her first husband, aged 18, 14 and 12. Neighbours told the Ilford Recorder she changed her name six years ago when she married her current partner, with whom she has two daughters, aged five and two, as well as the new-born baby boy.
Police said the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
