‘Beatles’ Isis killers expected to be held in American ‘supermax’ prison

Two of the notorious British ISIL fighters who made up the ‘Beatles’, Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh, are expected to be held in America’s highest-security prison.

The ADX prison, located in Colorado, has a solitary confinement unit where prisoners spend up to 23 hours a day. The soundproof cell is 12ft by 7ft.

Kotey and Elsheikh could be tried in the US courts over the murders of western ­hos­tages in Syria,  including three Americans and two Britons. If convicted, they will likely end up in the prison's H-Unit, reports The Sunday Times.

The solitary confinement unit has less than 30 inmates and exercise is restricted to an isolated “cage”.

Other inmates include Abu Hamza, the former imam of Finsbury Park mosque and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to blow up a plane on Christmas Day in 2009 with a bomb concealed in his underwear.
Abu Hamza has launched an appeal over his imprisonment in the unit, saying it amounts to "inhuman and degrading" treatment.

America has signalled that they intend to take responsibility for the ISIL Beatles pair after they were stripped of British citizenship.
